Cost to Live in an RV in Mountain Home, Arkansas — Honest Numbers
Everybody selling the RV lifestyle shows you sunsets. Nobody shows you the spreadsheet. Here it is — the honest monthly math for living in your rig at Mountain Home RV Park.

- City water and sewer
- Fiber internet — 1000 Mbps down / 500 up over WiFi
- Laundry on site, dog park, trash service
- Office and gift shop with the basics
No resort fees. No amenity fees. The price on this page is the price.

A real monthly budget
Here’s what a single person or couple actually spends living here:
| Expense | Monthly cost |
|---|---|
| RV site | $375 |
| Metered electric | $60–$150 (season dependent — AC in August costs more than heat in April) |
| Propane (heat/cooking, winter) | $0–$80 |
| Groceries | $300–$450 |
| Phone | $40–$80 |
| RV insurance | $80–$150 |
| Gas/vehicle | $100–$200 |
| Laundry (on site) | $20–$40 |
| Total | ~$975–$1,625 |
Compare that to a sticks-and-bricks life: the average 2-bedroom around here rents for about $790 a month — before electric, water, internet, and trash. You’re looking at $1,200+ to rent, easily. The RV wins by a few hundred bucks a month, every month.
The annual play: $3,750
Stay the year and it’s $3,750 — that’s $750 off, two months free versus paying monthly. If you know you’re here for 12 months, it’s the cheapest housing in the county that isn’t a tent.
Why Mountain Home makes the math work
This isn’t just about the site price. The town keeps the rest of the budget down:
- Groceries are cheap. GoBankingRates puts annual grocery costs here around $4,700 — well under the national average.
- No state tax on Social Security. Arkansas doesn’t tax it, so fixed-income retirees keep more of every check.
- Walk to what you need. Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, restaurants — close enough that you’re not burning gas on errands.
- Mountain Home was named the #1 place in America to retire without savings (GoBankingRates/Parade, 2026) — average annual essentials around $19,447. Living in an RV here puts you well under even that.
Nearly 30% of this town is 65 or older. You won’t be the only retiree in a rig. You’ll be in good company.
What the budget doesn’t include (honest section)
- Your rig payment, if you still have one. That’s between you and the bank.
- Maintenance. Tires, seals, the water heater that picks the worst possible week. Budget something monthly or it’ll budget you.
- Metered electric in summer. Arkansas August with the AC running is real money. The $60–$150 range above is honest — plan for the high end June through September.
